EGLX Post Mortem
We’d like to thank everyone who helped us at EGLX, especially family and friends; the event took more effort than we expected. We’d also like to thank all those who came by the booth to try the Cartesian Project; your feedback was incredibly useful. The event a great experience for all of us at Last Shot Studios.
EGLX was our first ever public showing of the Cartesian Project. While the game is still in early development, we wanted to get it into the hands of players and obtain feedback. We put together a pre-alpha build of the game, with 3 different modes: Chase, Survival, and Explore. The game builds rooms through procedural generation, but due to time constraints, we hand stitched 12 rooms built using our old generator and that ended up being our demo.
The outcome was better than expected. We received a lot of consistent feedback which clearly outlined what we needed to work on.
What we heard from almost every gamer, no matter the age, was that while the mechanics were difficult to grasp, they were gratifying to use once mastered. The overall response was positive though many provided suggestions on how to improve the controls.
We heard three things most frequently:
- Overly powerful blind effector
- Inability to mantle over ledges
- Unclear path towards objective
We were astonished by how many people wanted to collaborate on this project with us, so thank you to all who reached out. If we talked at EGLX and we have not contacted you, please email us at:
We intend to begin beta testing around the middle of 2020, with a projected release window sometime in 2021. We will be posting more information about the beta test on the website once we have reached that stage.
Thanks again for all of the support! Hope to see you all at the next one!
